The 1-MW-system, designed and supplied by Younicos, will dynamically balance power from the offshore Hywind wind farm, owned by Equinor and Masdar. Younicos parent Aggreko provided power both during the installation of the battery system and of the wind farm itself.
Gold Fields’ Granny Smith mine will be equipped with 7.3MW solar plant and a 2MW/1MWh battery, integrated with an existing 21MW gas power station. Rental project marks first time Aggreko incorporates battery storage into a hybrid power system underscoring the value and appeal of new microgrid-as-a-service-model.
Battery storage integrator Younicos is launching microgrids-as-a-service, expanding the recently launched energy-storage-as-a-service-offering. Customers benefit from this new modular approach, combining battery storage with low-cost renewables and thermal generation in one single contract.
A 7.3 MW solar array and 2 MW/1 MWh battery will be added to the Granny Smith gold mine in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields region. The system will be provided by Aggreko and Younicos, under a ‘microgrid-as-a-service’ business model.
Equinor revealed that Batwind has been completed and the 1 MW battery provided by Younicos, and located at an onshore substation, will now be able to dynamically balance power from the offshore wind farm.
Exactly 2 years after replacing the existing diesel power station with a high-speed, gas-fuelled reciprocating engine station, Aggreko is now working with Gold Fields to introduce renewables at its Granny Smith gold mine in Western Australia.
